Where are we today?Using a proven tool that was developed specifically for nonprofits, we can help you analyze what activities and/or programs you are focused on today and evaluate subjectively their impact on the mission and objectively their impact on the bottom line. The end result, is a single chart that shows how current programs are faring from both perspectives. Some organizations may simply want to use this tool as a quick check on where they are, before engaging in a full blown strategic planning process. This exercise is also a great way to validate the stated mission of the organization and provides the insights necessary to help facilitate the modification and/or creation a new mission statement - one that has meaning, clarity and is memorable.

Where do we want to be?The development of a shared vision is arguably more art then it is science. Ultimately while there are many ways to get there, it all starts with working with the right set of constituents on a guided discovery process, to flesh out a unifying and empowering vision that provides both clarity and inspiration. Based on our experience of doing this process ourselves and helping others, it is one that is best accomplished by having a third party like Greater Good facilitate - instead of trying to be both the client and the practitioner. Rarely if ever does this work. That said, it is also a process that can be accomplished with just a few hours of engagement including an initial fact gathering interview and then a half day vision-setting workshop.

How do we get there? The difference between the realities of today and the vision for the future, yields what is often called the gap analysis. These gaps can help to identify the practical objectives and actions that must be taken over a specified time horizon, in order to get from here to there. This is often work that can involve both the board and key staff members. Or, depending on the culture and the objectives it can be a board workshop that is focused on garnering board specific actions that can be implemented over time through the work of committees, or a time-bound task force. At the end of the day, the goal is to translate visions into practical plans & objectives - that can be implemented and measured on an ongoing basis - not to end up with a document that sits in a drawer.
